I loooove this place! My Croatian friend urged me to try the stuff here so I relented and went with my boyfriend. The location is pretty okay, it was easy to find parking. We had the Cevapi with kajmak and avjar, the sopska salata, and the Sarska Pljeskavica
The cevapi was amazing- so juicy and flavourful and the pita it was served with was phenomenal. I was especially a big fan of the avjar (crushed bell peppers I believe). This is a must-eat if you ever come here!
The sopska salata was delicious. Instead of the typical goat feta you find in Greek salads, this feta is made from cows milk and is quite mild so don't be afraid to order this if you're not a fan of strong cheeses. They put a bit too much olive oil since it pooled at the bottom but I didn't really mind. It's also made to order which is great!
The sarska pljeskavica was very rich. It's filled with a lot of cheese (they did NOT skimp out) and it was a very big portion. You have a choice to having it served with fries (amazing steak cut fries), potatoes, or rice. The meat was tender and not overdone at all.
Service was wonderful, the lady who helped us was very sweet and kind. She took the time to explain to us what the dishes were and what were the most popular dishes. They also have specials on the weekend that are off the menu like sarma and schnitzel so I do plan on revisiting on the weekend for those!
All in all, I definitely recommend Kafana. Good portions, excellent service, and a very cheerful atmosphere! Also, please order the cevapi; you won't regret it. -

Got together with 30 friends in the back room and we were served family style. We paid one price and we were served a fantastic coleslaw salad along with a rice platter heaping with chicken, pork, and lamb. I couldn't stop eating!
Owners are absolutely lovely! It was a great evening with friends and good food! -

Dont let the location discourage you from dropping into this hidden gem for delicious cervapi and ajvar. Located close to the Italian Centre, this family run resturant has a front bar end and resturant seating in the back that serves delicious little Serbian sausages called cervapi, and when wrapped in the traditional soft buttery sweet lepinja flatbread, bits of raw onion (it works!), creamy cream cheese like kajmak spread and a healthy dallop of ajvar a roasted sweet red pepper condiment... oh man. Just close your eyes and your tastebuds will dance. The staff are super friendly and happy to explain what items are. They excell at their cervapi but they have skewers and traditional burgers too. They have a behemoth sized Šarska Pljeskavica which is like a folded meat pancake stuffed with kajmak and ?mozzarella served with rice and lots of well seasoned melt in your mouth tender grilled zucchini and red peppers - hubby's a fan of the Šarska Pljeskavica. We recently had a birthday party so we had multiple gypsy platters.. each one feeds way more than 2 hungry people with 2 skewers of chicken/pork, 2 grilled chicken thighs, 10 cervapi, salad, rice, grilled veges and bread. Dont forget to ask for the kajmak and ajvar! If you're going as a big group call ahead to make reservations and a rough idea of what you will be ordering - it's a small family run place so the more notice they have, the faster you get to eat when you arrive!! You can always order takeout too if you need your cervapi fix.

Once upon a time there was a sleazy Italian sports bar on 95 Street that was transformed into a Balkan and Serbian restaurant called Euro Taste. Then, about a year later, two of the waitresses got together and bought the place, changing the name to Kafana. Sounds like the Canadian dream, right?
Kafana is like culinary mullet in reverse - a bar in the front, and a classy dining area in the back. The decor has not changed much - the dining area is very open and spacious. The menu is currently in transition, but is staying Balkan.
I opted for kebabs, or raznici, as they are called. You can mix or match two choices of beef, pork, or chicken, so I had on skewer of beef and one of chicken. The meat was cooked to perfection - marinated, juicy, and bursting with flavour. Plating was attractive, with roasted vegetables and rice pilaf rounding everything out. The two large crusty buns were a nice addition, although impossible to finish.
I was having a meeting with the person who happened to be the person who informed me of the change in ownership. He had a small order of cevapi, which is minced beef rolled into little cylinders and served on a toasted bun with a side of onions. For an extra couple of dollars, you can get sour cream or a vegetable spread. The look of the meat reminded me of a smaller version of the Mediterranean kafta. From what he described, it tasted similarly also. He also liked the vegetable spread, which added a dash of colour to the dish.
I also had a cup of cappuccino, which was excellent. It was so quiet in the dining area that I would find it an excellent place to just have a cup of coffee with a book, or a private meeting with a friend.
I am looking forward to seeing the new menu. -

Wow! I went here on the YEG Food Crawl last week...and of all the places we went this was the one I absolutely had to come back to this week. The beef barley soup was amazing...maybe the best I've ever had...including my mom's! (Disclaimer: she was with me and agreed) we had the salad and Gypsy platter for two. Tons of food...all excellent! I had to promise to bring her back again! So delicious...
